鈥 20 months practical training period, plus 3 months for End Point Assessment
Delivery model:
鈥 Work-based training with your employer
鈥 Day release during term time (approximately 1 day per week for 20 months)
鈥 Approximately 5 on-site visits per year
鈥 Level 1 Functional Skills in Maths and English (7 days at college for each, if required)
鈥 Off the job training will count for at least 6 hours a week of an apprentice鈥檚 time at work

鈥 Level 1 Functional Skills in English and Maths
鈥 Level 2 Carpentry and Joinery Apprenticeship
End Point Assessment:
鈥 Multiple choice knowledge test
鈥 Practical test
鈥 Professional discussion based on a portfolio of evidence
鈥 Principles of health & safety
鈥 Terminology/components including foundations, roofs, walls, floors, utilities and services
鈥 Interpret/ produce information from drawings/ specifications
鈥 Estimate resource quantities
鈥 Communicate and work with others well
鈥 The characteristics, quality, uses, sustainability, limitations and defects of timber/ timber-based products
鈥 How to prepare, use and maintain hand/ power tools
鈥 Different types of fixings/ fasteners
鈥 First fix work: timber frames/ linings, timber coverings, stud partitions, straight flights of stairs and handrails/ spindles
鈥 Second fix work: installation of service encasements, cladding, wall/ floor units, mouldings, side hung doors and ironmongery
鈥 Structural carcassing work, trussed rafter roofs, gables, verges/ eaves, floor joists/ coverings
