This apprenticeship will prepare you to work as an accountant for an accounting practice or other organisation.
Professional accounting technicians use their technical skills to support accounting teams and ensure compliance with regulations, standards, and controls. They work with colleagues, managers, clients, suppliers, government bodies, and auditors, providing reports, overseeing reconciliations, and resolving accounting issues. Their role may include supervising assistants, assessing risks in financial data, and interacting with HMRC. They work independently or as part of a team, and must be confident using digital tools and adapting to changes in the profession.

Duration: 鈥 13 months practical training period, plus 3 months for End Point Assessment

Delivery model:鈥 Work-based training with your employer鈥 Day release during term time (approx. 36 days per year)鈥 Level 2 Functional Skills in Maths and English (7 days at college for each, if required)鈥 Off the job training will count for at least 6 hours a week of an apprentice鈥檚 time at work

What will apprentices learn?

鈥 Technical knowledgeAccounting: understanding and/or validating the accounting standards for basic accounts preparation and/or the drafting of financial statements and specialist knowledge in other aspects of accounting, for example management accounting and tax accounting鈥 Understanding of the industries and environments in which an organisation operates, including customer and supplier needs, in order to create and/or validate and/or report financial information鈥 Understanding and applying the relevant ethical standards to their own behaviour and appropriately challenge the actions of others where they do not meet these standards鈥 Understanding and applying professional standards and legal regulations to an organisation鈥檚 financial information, and to comply with the fundamental principles of integrity, objectivity, professional competence and due care and confidentiality鈥 Understanding and evaluating an organisation鈥檚 systems and processes and make recommendations for improvement, and they may also have a basic understanding of external and internal audit鈥檚 function in giving assurance over these systems and processes

What next?
Examples of roles as a professional accounting technician include, Assistant Auditor, Assistant Management Accountant, Assistant Financial Accountant, Accounts Payable And Expenses Supervisor, Commercial Analyst, Payroll Manager, Senior Bookkeeper and Senior Financial Officer
Entry criteria
Level 3 AAT Diploma in Accounting or equivalent. A good standard of English and maths is required and will need to demonstrate the ability to achieve all elements of the apprenticeship during their programme, including working in a suitable job role.
Fee information
Free to apprentices. This apprenticeship has a 拢12,000 funding band. Small companies will need to make a contribution of 拢600; large companies could pay through the apprenticeship levy if they have funds available.
